CHAMBER SELECTS THEIR 2007
“CITIZEN OF THE YEAR” HONOREE
When you hear the phrase “going above and beyond the call of duty,” Janice certainly fits the bill. She is a member of the NCPD 2nd Precinct, Problem Oriented Policing (POP) Unit, which not only investigates repeated incidents in the community, but aims to discover the root of the problem in order to solve the problem.

Throughout the years, Janice has attended many, many various Hicksville community meetings and works with the leaders to help keep us safe from harm. It seems that she is always available, 24 hours a day, never complaining when someone calls. As she stated one time, “this is why I wear the NCPD uniform.” Janice was on vacation when Hicksville participated in the NCPD 2nd Precinct’s “National Night Out 2007.” She came in from vacation that night to drive the police bus for the seniors of fraternal clubs and residents who just could not walk well. As I sat in the bus I watched and listened to everything near me. Not only did the residents know and call her by her given name, Janice, but many of her fellow officers laughed and smiled with each other all night, showing their likeability, respect and trust for all of their fellow officers, including Janice.

P.O. Janice Boyd belongs to the 100,000 people who are in her jurisdiction but Hicksville calls her “their own.”

The Hicksville Chamber of Commerce realized there was an important area of citizens that was not being recognized. We felt the need to acknowledge the ongoing efforts of a business or non-businessperson who showed exceptional dedication to the improvement and betterment of Hicksville and its people.
