| CHAMBER MONTHLY MEETINGS |
 |
The Hicksville Chamber of Commerce offers our members many committees to choose from to utilize their talents and skills. Committee volunteers become well know in the community as business people who care. Some committees only require your action only once or twice a year, others on a more frequent basis. Whatever time you can give, is appreciated and gives you the opportunity to establish yourself as part of “The Community with Time For You.” the motto on our banners and welcome signs throughout the community. Besides the many benefits of membership, you will meet other members who might very well become lifetime friends. Call the chamber for information.
The Hicksville Chamber of Commerce is looking for people who want to make their business grow. How much time is required? No set amount. The saying “You get what you put into it” saying comes to mind. Whatever it takes to get your name, business and services known to the public. The Chamber meets the third Tuesday of each month (no July & August). We meet at Peppercorn’s beginning at 12:30 PM with a buffet luncheon available for $18 payable at the door. Come lift your spirits by joining with others who share your same trials, tribulations and concerns. Meeting includes a synopsis of chamber business and an interesting speaker or two. Join us for lunch. Make a difference. Come see what we are about. If you like us, join our organization! |

MONTHLY LUNCHEON MEETINGS
FEED MORE THAN JUST YOUR BODY |
 |
Welcome to our May Luncheon meeting. May is usually the month of flowers and of our Annual Scholarship Awards. I do know that there will be two awards this year, but that is all I was told. The committee has lots of decisions to make so I can write stories for both for the newspapers, get the plaques done for the office and the awardees, and write copy to announce in this, our luncheon meeting notice and the Annual Scholarship Section of our website. Opps, I have to order flowers also. We might be running late this year, but you have to give us credit, we always cross the finish line. The tortoise and the who?
Usually there are no speakers for May. The Scholarships are an important enough that day. These two students have worked hard for 3-4 years waiting for a day like this day. It belongs to them.
PLEASE COME TO THE SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDS LUNCHEON AND SUPPORT THESE TWO YOUNG ADULTS OF HICKSVILLE SCHOOL DISTRICT. LET US SHOW THEM JUST HOW PROUD WE ARE OF THEM.
The luncheon will be on the third Tuesday, May 20, 2008. Peppercorn’s Restaurant will start lunch at 12:30 pm at 25 East Marie Street, across the street from the main firehouse.
For those of you reading this column.... Last month we met at Peppercorns Restaurant and I must say the meeting was fantastic. Not only was Marjory of L.I. State Bank of Westbury great, as always, but also she held her audience in attention about what she and co-worker spoke about for the entire meeting. After sponsoring the luncheon and holding a great meeting, she also had a raffle gift to use at the luncheon. The scholarship raffle was a huge success. Thank you Marjory.
Our guest for Invocation was another hit of the day. Mr. Habeeb Ahmed is President of the Islamic Center of Long Island in Westbury and he is also Commissioner of Nassau County Human Rights Commission in Mineola. I am going to call and ask him to do a story for our Website: probably our Community News column. Look for it. I have not been able to make meetings for physical reasons but I understand people were just sat in silence as Mr. Ahmen spoke of his religion. I would like to have him write it up so I can put this on the website. I am so sorry that I had missed this meeting.
Please check out the Community News column. I hope the article comes in on time.
If anyone is interested in having a speaking engagement during lunch please call Judy at the office, 516-931-7170. We do not always have our members speak. As long as they have informative topics that are useful we have members and non-members. We provide valuable information to visitors, residents and businesses. No reservations are necessary. Our meetings bring interesting guests throughout the year. The average speaker will talk approximately 15-20 minutes with a question/answer period if needed. We also have short topic speakers who talk about a topic for 5-7 minutes and a lot of information can be passed on in 7 minutes.
If one month’s topic does not interest you another surely will. We have had attorneys telling you every kind of insurance you could and should have to cover different subjects. I did not know if I would enjoy that speaking engagement but it was so interesting the afternoon just flew. The L.I. Transportation Mgmt. Inc spoke on how Nassau County was Aiding the commuters on L.I. - a bank spoke on how to identify counterfeit bills - we heard about how to borrow money for business, personal, etc. - how to take care of your voice and not damage it by having certain harmful habits - skin cancer - heart attacks/strokes - travel agents - how to handle your finances now so you will have money when you retire - a weatherman spoke about hurricanes. I could go on and on but I won’t.
This is a membership meeting. If you feel that you would like to attend a meeting before joining, please call the office and speak to Judy. She has to schedule the day. Please do not just show up. You are welcome to visit to see what we are about, to enjoy a pleasant meal and conversation with knowledgeable business people. We had a group of people come, canvas our entire group, left all sorts of literature and business cards and took up the entire meeting. Please, this is not appreciated. We encourage knowledgeable people who want to be part of the community and our group. |
